Gush Etzion Blessed Valley Red 2013
The Gush Etzion Winery is located at the Gush Etzion Junction just south of Jerusalem, where climates and soils similar to both Bordeaux and Provence allow owners Shraga and Tamar Rosenberg to craft wines that are at once familiar and unique. This blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc is reminiscent of a great St.-Emilion wine from Bordeaux, while representing the best of Israels terroir. With a deep garnet-ruby color, it offers captivating aromas of ripe red berry, spice and vanilla bean. The mellow, velvety palate shows flavors of currant, cracked black pepper and toast, coursing through the long finish. This is drinking wonderfully now and can also be cellared for several years from vintage. Pair with grilled lamb sausages, braised short ribs or a mild Camembert cheese.
